AI Use Case Series: AI in Construction [AI Today Podcast]
Description
The construction industry is increasingly using AI in a range of ways. In this episode of AI Today hosts Kathleen Walch and Ron Schmelzer discuss how AI is being applied in a number of ways.
Design and Planning for construction
AI and generative AI tools are helping to optimize building designs. We discuss how AI tools analyze vast amounts of data to suggest the most efficient and cost-effective design solutions, reducing material waste and construction time. AI-powered cost estimation tools are also being used to help with budgeting and reduces the risk of cost overruns. Additionally, we share how AI is helping with energy efficiency and sustainability reducing energy consumption and environmental impact.
Project Management and Operations
AI-driven project management platforms are helping PMs in a number of ways. From helping managers optimize scheduling, resource allocation, and risk management. Predictive maintenance is also a popular use of AI. It is used to predict equipment failures and schedule maintenance before problems occur. Also, AI is being used to help keep a watchful eye over construction zones keeping everyone safe. AI-powered drones and cameras are used for real-time monitoring of sites. Additionally, computer vision is being used to analyze images and videos, flagging unsafe behaviors, equipment misuse, and other risks in real-time.
As AI increases, it will continue to drive cost savings, time savings, and overall improvements and efficiencies.
